THS To Present Broadway Classic

Director Jessica Spillane and Producer Shannon Healy Bring "Fiddler On The Roof" to Trumbull

“Without our traditions, life would be as shaky as….as a fiddler on the roof,” says Tevye, a poor milkman and central character of ’s upcoming production of the 1964 Broadway play and 1971 film, "Fiddler On The Roof."

Tevye, his wife Golde and their five daughters, live in Anatevka, a Jewish village in Russia, in 1905. The story centers around Tevye’s fight to maintain his religious traditions, while his three eldest daughters’ choice of husbands move them away from the customs of their faith.

At the same time, the Russian Revolution swept the country, causing the Tsar to evict Jews from their villages throughout Russia. The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964 and was directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins, was the first run of a musical in history to surpass the 3,000 performance mark.
