5 Trumbull Students Headed to the Big Screen

Five Trumbull youths, including two Trumbull High School alumni, will have a movie they wrote, produced and starred in shown in Bethel.

It premieres Wednesday Dec. 18 at Bethel Cinema, 269 Greenwood Ave., at 7 p.m.

The movie is called 'Youth' and the Trumbull kids involved are Jeremy Eckl, a THS alumni, co-wrote and stars in the film. Jeremy was a theater major at the Regional Center for the Arts (RCA), said Nancy Eckl, the youth's mother.

Gabe Weitzman, a senior at THS wrote, performed and recorded some original music for the film. Gabe is a music major at RCA.  Hayley Ryanne Tate, who co-stars in the movie, is an 11th grader from THS and studies dance and musical theater at RCA.  It was at RCA that the students met sixteen year old film maker Max Galassi, from Newtown, who co-wote, filmed and directed and edited the movie.

THS alumna Maddie Cutler was the production assistant and the production photographer.

"The kids worked on this project completely on their own, from start to finish.  They started by raising over $3,500 using Indiegogo.  Then spent the entire summer filming, mostly in Newtown and Trumbull.  They spent hours in a sound studio doing voice-over work, then Max spent months editing the film.  It premiered in October at the Newtown Arts Festival  and will be submitted to various film festivals," Eckl added.
