Description: This no-cost holiday event allows you and your family experience the Bethlehem scene – just as Mary and Joseph did over two thousand years ago.

Holiday Party at the Historical Society

Where: Trumbull Historical Society, 1856 Huntington Tpke, Trumbull

When: Sunday, Dec. 16, 2-4 p.m.

Description: The Historical Society will be open for its annual Holiday Open House from 2-4pm. There will be crafts, refreshments (including hot cider!), and live music by Trumbull students. There will also be a raffle for a 3 story gingerbread house made by local resident, Helen Ingrassia. Our gift shop will also be open, where you can find craft kits, handmade ornaments, books, and stocking stuffers. There is a $5 suggested donation to help support our organization. Guests can then journey over to the NIA for its annual bonfire at 5pm!

 

‘Traditional Christmas’ Family Day Open House

Where: Brookfield Museum and Historical Society, 165 Whisconier Road, Brookfield

When: Saturday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Description: This open house is a must see visit for families that is guaranteed to get everyone into the spirit of the season.

Many attractions for children and grown-ups will highlight the event to include a visit from Santa who will stop by with his helpers bearing complimentary treats for the kids.

The sight of model trains in a winter display, will entertain kids of all ages, while the sound of an antique music box will fill the air with well-known Christmas musical classics. A winter Christmas tree scene with boy and girl mannequins which appeared in a Macy’s New York Christmas display window scene in the early 1950s will bring back cherished memories.

In addition attendees will enjoy complimentary home made Christmas cookies, as well as hot chocolate and mulled cider. Carolers will also be on hand to sing favorite seasonal songs. A children’s scavenger hunt will challenge the participants to seek out hidden items.

AnimalsRFamily Adoption Event

Where: Choice Pet Supply, 949 High Ridge Road, Stamford

When: Saturday, 11 a.m.

Cost: Free

Description: Non-profit AnimalsRFamily will host an adoption at the Choice Pet Supply in Stamford.

"Behind the Scenes Tour" at the Maritime Aquarium

Where: Maritime Aquarium, 10 N. Water St., Norwalk

When: Saturday, 8:15 a.m.

Cost: $32.50

Description: The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk opens its backstage spaces for a rare behind-the-scenes tour. Conducted before the Aquarium opens, from 8:15 to 10 a.m., the guided tour offers unique opportunities to see how the animal-husbandry staff meets the varying food and water needs of some 2,000 resident animals.

The tour includes stops at the Aquarium’s “fish kitchen,” where 18 tons of fish a year is prepared, and above the 110,000-gallon Open Ocean tank, where the dorsal fins of 8-foot sand tiger sharks cut through the water surface. Learn the delicate requirements of a jellyfish “nursery.”

Participants must be at least 10 years old; under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

The tour is limited to 25 people, so reservations are strongly recommended. Walk-up tickets will be sold, space permitting.

Free Christmas Concert

Where: Concert Hall, Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Ave., Norwalk

When: Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

Description: Norwalk Community Chorale, 52nd Annual Christmas Concert, A Blessing of Peace, Sponsored by Norwalk Recreation and Parks Department.

 

Fairfield: Holiday 5K Run/Walk for Toys

Where: The Scandinavian Club, 1351 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield

When: Sunday, Dec. 16 - 8:15 a.m. to register, 9:30 a.m. race start time.

Cost: $10 on race day for people ages 19 and older, $5 for those ages 18 and under

Description: Bring a new, unwrapped toy for kids 1-16 to support the to for the Fairfield Police Benevolent Association's holiday toy drive for children at Bridgeport Hospital.

Shelton: 'The Snow Queen'

Where: Harvest Christian Center, 302 Soundview Ave

When: Saturday, Dec. 15: 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. & Sunday, Dec. 16: 3 p.m.

Cost: $5-10

Description: The Snow Queen is the story of a young girl, Gerda, who is on a mission to rescue her dear friend Kai who has been taken away by the Snow Queen.  On her journey north she encounters an enchantress, ravens, royalty, robbers, and various other crazy characters. This fun winter story is performed by actors and dance students from Charis Performing Arts Center.
