Fairfield: The Felice Brothers

Where: Fairfield Theatre Company

Description: The Felice Brothers and their band mates Greg Farley, Christmas Clapton and David Turbeville come to us from the Catskill Mountains, where a homegrown sound has been working its way through the bloodlines for generations.

Greenwich YMCA Open House

Where: Greenwich YMCA

When: Sat., Jan. 5, all day.

Cost: Free.

Description: Tour the new building with staff and then join in on some free class for children and adults. Visit the new pool where the Marlins Swim School will be swimming. Greenwich: Mother Goose Re-Imagined

Orange: Audition for Burklyn Ballet Theatre Summer Program

Where: New England Ballet School, 200 Boston Post Rd, Orange, CT

Description: New England Ballet will host the national summer program auditions for Burklyn Ballet Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. Burklyn Ballet Theatre is an intense summer program for pre-professional ballet dancers and is held on the campus of Johnson State College, a small college in the mountains of Vermont. The program offers dancers three classes and two or more hours of rehearsals daily. All dancers perform in the 600 seat Dibden Center for the Arts each Saturday evening. The performances, which are fully produced and costumed, offer classical and contemporary ballets as well as new and innovative modern works. Dancers can attend for 2, 3, 4, or 6 week sessions. Scholarships are available. The audition is for ages 10 and up and will take the form of a two hour intermediate/advanced class. Dancers do not need to pre-register for the auditions but should arrive at New England Ballet studios, 200 Boston Post Road, Orange, CT one half hour prior to audition time. Woodbridge: Saturday Storycraft for ages 3-5

Where: The Woodbridge Town Library, 10 Newton Rd, Woodbridge

Description: Age appropriate stories and crafts for preschoolers ages 3-5. No registration is needed.

 

Hamden: Skating at Louis Astorino Ice Rink

Where: Louis Astorino Ice Arena, 595 Mix Ave, Hamden, CT

Description: $5 to skate; $5 skate rental.

Shelton: Ceramic Saturday

Where: The Giggling Pig, 478 River Rd

When: Saturday, Jan. 5, 10 a.m.

Cost: $15

Description: This Saturday join the ceramic fun from 10 - noon. A two hour drop off is just $15 per child. The children can choose from farm animals and dinosaurs and will each paint and decorate any two of their choosing.

Shelton: Teens DO!

Where: Plumb Memorial Library, 65 Wooster St

When: Saturday, Jan. 5, 1 - 4 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description: Fitness Restart: teens 13-18 explore an afternoon of exercise class, samples and nutritional health speakers to start 2013 off the way you just resolved.

Bethel: Bethel High School Navy JROTC Christmas Tree Pick Up

Where: Pick-up takes place at your home

When: 9 a.m. to Noon, Jan. 5

Cost: $10

Description: Support the Bethel High School Navy JROTC program and let them pick up your Christmas tree for recycling on Saturday, January 5th.  All trees will be mulched and taken to a local farm. Please have trees out by 9 a.m.  Trucks will be out picking up trees between 9 a.m. and noon. The snow date is Sunday, January 6th from 12-3 p.m. A $10 donation is suggested and goes toward educational programs for our cadets. Please make checks out to “Bethel NJROTC Boosters” and leave in an envelope taped inside your storm door or other accessible area.

 

Woodbridge: Christmas Tree Pick-up and Recycling

Where: Pick-up is at your home

When: Jan. 6

Cost: Suggested donation of $18

Description: The Boy Scouts of Troop 41 are collecting and recycling Christmas Trees to raise funds for the troop’s programs and community service projects. Register on-line. www.xmas-tree-recycle.org. Open to Woodbridge, CT residents only. Put your tree out by your mailbox on Saturday evening, Jan. 5. Remember to fully remove all tinsel. Tape an envelope to your front door in support of our programs and community service projects.

 

Newtown: Grieving Seminar for Newtown

Where: The Inn at Newtown

When: 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6

Cost: Free

Description: Please join the Spirit of Prayer Ministry and Pastor Vargas at this event. All are invited who need counseling and prayer and who want to show support for the victims' family. We will be uniting in prayer against violence.
Pastor Vargas is an experienced Christian counselor and has counseled

New Canaan: Opening Reception for January Exhibits

Where: Silvermine Arts Center

When: 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6

Cost: Free

Description: The exhibits for the New Year bring the highly anticipated New Guild Members show plus an exciting exhibition of new works by Donald Axleroad, a retrospective honoring the work of Tina Rohrer, and the Silvermine Print Collection. Exhibits run from Jan. 6 through Feb. 17.

 

Norwalk: Festival of Lighthouses

Where: Maritime Aquarium

When: 10 a.m. Jan. 5 (click headline to see additional dates)

Cost: The “2012 Festival of Lighthouses” is free with Maritime Aquarium general admission, which is $13.95 for adults, $12.95 for seniors (65+) and $10.50 for children 2-12.

Description: Four model lighthouses made in Norwalk are helping to light the way for visitors in The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk as part of the Aquarium’s 11th annual “Festival of Lighthouses.” Entries by Courtenay Austin, Shar Landers, Jason Larche and Jo Stecker are among the creative lighthouses in the holiday display, which is open daily and free with Aquarium admission through Jan. 21, 2013. Maritime Aquarium visitors can follow these homemade beacons through the galleries and then cast a vote for their favorite.  The lighthouse with the most votes wins $1,500.

Wilton: Great American Songbook

Where: Wilton Library

When: 2 p.m. Jan. 6

Cost: Free

Description: Stay at Home in Wilton is very pleased to partner with the Wilton Library to bring a very special concert to town. Dr. Joe Utterback is a superb pianist, but even a better story teller with music. The concert will be held in the Wilton Library's Brubeck Room. Although there is no cost for this program,

Fairfield: Memorial & Fundraiser Concert for Newtown
