Health District Offers Free 'Cooking Matters' Shopping Tour Next Tuesday

Learn how to shop healthy on a budget at Monroe Stop & Shop.

The Trumbull-Monroe Health District (TMHD) has partnered with Cooking Matters and Stop & Shop to offer a program called “Cooking Matters at the Store.”

The free program — Tuesday, June 10. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stop & Shop in Monroe — is geared toward parents and caregivers to empower families to stretch their food budgets and make healthy meals at home.

Space is limited and registration is required. Call TMHD at 203-452-5195 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to register.

"TMHD is pleased to be able to work together with our partners to offer this program to parents,” TMHD Director of Health Patrice Sulik said. “This program will offer tips on how to eat healthy while staying within your budget.”

Cooking Matters at the Store is based on 20 years of experience serving low-income families across the country. During the tour, participants are empowered with four key food skills: reading food labels, comparing unit prices, finding whole grain foods and identifying three ways to purchase produce.

Participants take home a booklet with recipes and shopping tips, a reusable grocery bag and a $10 gift card.
