First Selectman's Golf Tourney Raises $60,000 for THS Programs

The following is a statement from First Selectman Tim Herbst:

“We are honored by the generosity of so many in supporting this charitable cause that is significantly important to the Trumbull community and Trumbull High School.”

TRUMBULL- - First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst on Monday announced that the 2nd annual First Selectman’s Golf Classic raised over $60,000 for various student programs at Trumbull High School.  The First Selectman created a 501 (c)(3) organization last year that is dedicated to raising funds for four groups at Trumbull High School that promote athletic, academic and fine arts competition.  Those organizations include the Trumbull High School Booster Club, the Trumbull ACE Foundation, the Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band and Friends of the Trumbull High School Choirs.

This year, the event had various high dollar sponsors, including a $10,000 platinum sponsor in the name of the Richard Aiello Charitable Foundation.  Herbst said that the Aiello Charitable Foundation will be the event’s primary sponsor for as long as the golf tournament continues.  “We are grateful for the generosity of the Aiello Foundation and all of our primary sponsors for this event.  As a result of their generosity we will be able to dedicate the necessary resources to worthy student organizations that provide Trumbull students with opportunities outside of the classroom that very much are an extension of learning,”  stated the First Selectman.  “It is our hope that this golf tournament will become an annual tradition and grow each and every year.  As I tell people all the time, Trumbull High School had a tremendous influence in helping to shape my life and I view this tournament as giving back to a school that gave so much to me.”

“This event was a huge success and as the parent of children that will go to Trumbull High School and participate in these programs, I am pleased to have worked with the First Selectman these last two years to fundraise for these worthy causes,”  stated Sean Carroll, President of Merit Insurance, one of the primary sponsors of the Golf Classic.

Trumbull’s new School Superintendent and new principal of Trumbull High School also offered thanks and praise for the money raised by the Golf Classic.

“As a former principal of Trumbull High School and as one of the founders of the Trumbull ACE Foundation, I can tell you that support from the community is critical in making our student programs among the strongest in the State of Connecticut,”  stated School Superintendent Gary Cialfi.  Marc Guarino, Trumbull High School’s new principal, concurs with Dr. Cialfi.

“The First Selectman’s Golf Classic is a wonderful event that provides our students with the resources they require to compete effectively, whether it be athletic, academic or fine arts competition.  We truly appreciate the partnership we have forged with the Town in sponsoring this event every year and we thank First Selectman Herbst for his efforts.”
