Trumbull, Stratford Theaters Offering Free or $1 Kids Movies This Summer

There are several ways to save cash at Regal and Bowtie movie theaters this summer.

Taking the family to a movie these days can break the bank. Between tickets, popcorn and drinks, it can cost a chunk of change.

Now you have a chance to take the kids to see a movie on the big screen without shelling out too much cash. Bowtie Cinemas has a Free Kids Summer Film Series at the Marquis 16 theater in Trumbull.

Regal Stratford Stadium 14 at 411 Barnum Avenue Cutoff in Stratford is one of the Regal Entertainment Group theaters hosting Summer Movie Express.

Tickets are free. Movies are screened Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. with seating open at 9 a.m. and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Movies to be screened include Epic, Walking with Dinosaurs, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, Mr. Peabody & Sherman and Rio 2.

You can also get some discounts on tickets and at the snack counter through Bowtie's "Criterion Club."

Regal's "Summer Movie Express"

Tickets to the movies are $1. Movies are screened Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Movies to be screened include: Despicable Me 2, Lego Movie, Turbo, Rio 2 and more. 

Tickets for Summer Movie Express films must be bought at the theater. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Will Rogers Institute.

"Many families make this a summer tradition and look forward to our announcement of the long list of fun movies coming their way. And for Regal, this helps us instill that love of moviegoing in another generation," said Ken Thewes, chief marketing officer at Regal Entertainment Group. "The titles this year appeal to a diverse group of tastes, and we know there is a little bit of something for everyone." 

If you're a Regal Crown Club member, you can get popcorn for $2 on Tuesdays, among other savings.
