GLOW Festival

Growing a Life of Wholeness

at the Trumbull GLOW Festival

You know you could make healthier choices.  Even so, you often somehow don’t follow through in making  them.  What are the roadblocks that keep us from doing what we know we need to do to improve our own health?  That is the question Grace Episcopal Church’s Parish Nurse, Donna Voges, asked herself last year.  From that one simple question, an entire health and wholeness outreach project has grown and blossomed at Grace Church called the GLOW at Grace (Growing a life of wholeness at Grace).   Grace Church has decided to open its doors to become a gathering place for healing and wholeness in the Trumbull Community.  Grace wishes to welcome both those seeking healing, and those who have healing gifts to offer, to come together in supporting each other in making healthier choices in body, mind and spirit in 2012.

Already Grace Church is home to almost 20 weekly 12-step recovery meetings, meditation groups, caregiver’s support groups, stretch classes, music therapy sessions, healing liturgies and other health and wholeness related special events.  The church plans to increase its health outreach schedule by encouraging community organizations, health practitioners and teachers to consider Grace Church as a venue for reaching and meeting with the people of Trumbull.  They hope to develop and attract regular events such as healthy cooking classes, exercise clubs, spirituality groups, practitioner demonstrations and lectures.

Their upcoming GLOW Festival on June 2 will be a town wide debut of the GLOW at Grace project.  The festival will be a fun, community wide celebration of healthy living.   Grace has partnered with Griffin Hospital, the Center for Women and Families, the Caron Foundation, Trumbull High School, Trumbull Fire Dept. and EMS Service and the Trumbull Selectman’s Office to bring supportive organizations together at the GLOW Festival on June 2.   Also participating at the event will be exhibitors from local environmental groups in support of healing the earth, including having a mobile solar generator on site and a plant and flower sale.   The Griffin health van will be present and offering free health screenings.   There will be chiropractic, massage, reiki, Qi Gong, tai chi, yoga and other practitioners on hand doing mini sessions and classes.  Concerts and events will be scheduled throughout the day, including a performance by the Trumbull High School Chamber Singers.  The day will include special programming for children and teens. “We’d really like to recover our identity as a community resource,” said Elsa Worth, Rector of Grace Church.  “We take very seriously our call to share God’s healing love, and we believe we have been called to find ways to reach out to this community and to use our resources to support people in finding deeper levels of health and wholeness in their lives,” she said.

Some of the most exciting features of the festival will be the bungee/trampoline jumper and hot air balloon rides in a 90 foot tall, tethered hot-air balloon.  Everyone at Grace is hoping for good weather on June 2, as these fun activities are weather permitting!
