Traditional Irish Music
Loretta Egan Murphy will join accordion maestro John Whelan for an evening of traditional Irish music at St. Gabriel’s Parish Hall, 26 Broadway, Milford, CT on Thursday, June 21, sponsored by the P.V. O’Donnell Comhaltas Chapter The session, which is free, starts at 7:45 pm and all are welcome to attend. BYOB, refreshments served.
Loretta grew up in an Irish household in the Bronx, New York, and began her musical journey as a student of Pete Kelly, from Galway, Ireland. Loretta played with other young Irish musicians in the 70’s and 80’s in New York in a group called the Shannonaires, who travelled to Ireland and within the USA on several concert tours and promoted their record album. She later went on to win numerous awards nationally, and has taught Irish music to hundreds of students in New York and Connecticut. Loretta is a session leader in Connecticut and also plays regularly at ceili dances, festivals, and Irish events throughout the state. Her first CD “Beyond the Watery Lane,” will be released this month.
Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE) was founded in 1951 in Ireland to promote Irish traditional music, song, dance and language. Today there are 415 branches worldwide and up to two million people attend Comhaltas functions each year.
