Herbst: Digital Realty $75M Expansion 'Near Completion'

Digital Realty is almost finished with a 70,000-square-foot expansion to its buildings at 80 Merritt Boulevard, according to First Selectman Tim Herbst.

The company provides data storage services, among other things.

“The Town of Trumbull is honored and extremely fortunate to have a successful new-economy company like Digital Realty make such a significant investment here,” Herbst said. “This project is one of the largest private sector investments in the region in the last decade, and we will work tirelessly to justify the faith the company has shown in Trumbull as a host community.”

The Trumbull Planning and Zoning Commission approved the expansion in 2011.

A 70,000 square foot building expansion will ultimately add three data center suites. Herbst said.

"As of this writing, the first suite is already fully leased, the second is available for lease and the third will be completed pending demand. When the project is completed, the entire complex will have been enlarged to 240,000 square feet, and will be leased primarily to customers in the communications, investment banking and financial services industries," he added.

Company officials have expressed appreciation for a strong relationship with the Town of Trumbull and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, resulting in networking opportunities and the timely permitting that helped keep the project on track, Herbst said.

“Digital Realty is delighted to expand its data center in Trumbull, Connecticut,” said Michael F. Foust, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Realty. “We are seeing an increase in local demand for best-in-class data center solutions and we are prepared to meet that demand. In addition, we are very encouraged by the support we have been receiving from our partners in the town offices.”

In June of this year, Digital Realty was named a “2013 Business in Bloom” honoree by the Trumbull Chamber of Commerce, an affiliate of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council.

The Town of Trumbull’s Economic & Community Development Commission nominated the company for the honor. Digital Realty’s Real Estate Manager Sheryl Matteis and Technical Operations Manager John Henshaw accepted the honor on behalf of the company.
