FAIRFIELD, CT., Nov. 6, 2013 – Sixty-five years after Abraham L. Green opened Fairfield County’s first funeral home serving the Jewish community, his grandson Jonathan now supports families following the loss of loved ones.

Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home of Fairfield today announced that Jonathan L. Green has joined the firm, having obtained his embalmer’s and funeral director’s license from the State of Connecticut.
“I know my father would be very proud of Jonathan, as am I,” said Sam Green, Director of the Home. Sam’s father, Abraham Green, passed away in 2007 at age 90.
“My father handled funeral arrangements as though he was an extension of the bereaved family,” Sam said. “He treated each loss as his own. I know that my son will continue the tradition of compassionate care.”
“Though each individual reacts to a death uniquely, there are many ways in which the experience is universal,” Sam said. “Jonathan has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to empathize with those who are suffering, helping them heal so they can begin to move on with their lives.”
“As you might expect, Jonathan has been part of the Green Funeral Home family for his entire life,” Sam said. “Growing up in the funeral business, he developed great understanding and awareness of the demands this work. His caring, interest and character make him a great addition to our dedicated team.”
After earning his undergraduate degree in sociology from Ithaca College, Jonathan completed an internship in social work. He then earned a degree in Mortuary Science from New York-based American Academy McAllister Institute where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, receiving the Faculty Award. He is a member of the Mu Sigma Alpha Honor Society of the National Association of Colleges of Mortuary Science and earned the Award of Merit from the New York State Funeral Directors Association.
He is a graduate of The Hopkins School and, earlier, Ezra Academy. Since 2009 he has been a licensed Emergency Medical Technician.
“Care for the deceased is a fundamental building block of Jewish communal life,” Jonathan said. “I am grateful to be able to honor my father’s and my grandfather’s legacies by continuing this family tradition.”
