Meet Jon Greene

My name is Jon Greene and I’m running for Town Council in District 1.

As 20 year Trumbull residents, my wife Jackie Carter and I raised Stephanie, a recent college graduate, and Melanie, a high school senior.  We selected Trumbull because it looked like a great place to bring up kids.  We were correct.  So I’m a firm believer in investing in our future through strong schools and programs for our children as well as family-friendly amenities like our outstanding park system.

However, with empty nesting rapidly approaching, we’re anticipating life as future senior citizen residents.  Trumbull needs to remain as attractive for our seniors as it is for families with strong program offerings through our senior center.

We must also make sure that staying in Trumbull is financially viable.  That means ensuring that our tax dollars are spent wisely through sensible controls such as eliminating the bidding exemption in our charter for professional services – businesses regularly get bids for legal, technical and business services.  It also means establishing appropriate senior tax benefit programs with means testing so we give the greatest benefits to those with the greatest need.  Lastly, we need to maintain the senior safety net with strong oversight of expenses to keep Stern Village affordable (instead of this year’s 40% increase in administrative overhead).

I ask for your support for the Democratic ticket on November 5th.  Together we can ensure that Trumbull remains a wonderful town for residents of all ages.
