Children's Crafting Session: Native American Corn Husk Dolls

In recognition of National American Indian Heritage Month, the Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) invite children aged 7 years and older to learn how to craft Corn Husk Dolls on Saturday, November 16, 10:00 a.m.-noon at the Shelton Community Center, 41 Church St., Huntington. The cost is $15 and includes supplies.

Wendy Mawhinney, DAR member, teacher, re-enactor, and Children's Educational Coordinator of the Trumbull Historical Society, will lead the craft session. Wendy has taught Colonial and Native American programs to children for many years, including at the Discovery Museum, David Humphreys House, Bush-Holley House, schools, historical societies, and historic sites (i.e.Deerfield, Sturbridge). Space is limited. To reserve a seat for your child, call Wendy at 203-261-4662 or e-mail wcmawhinney@aol.com

The DAR perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence. The group also helps maintain historic state properties. Any woman over 18 who can prove an ancestor served in the American Revolution is a prospective member. For more information on the DAR go online at http://www.sarahriggshumphreysDAR.org
