Why Decorating is not the same as Staging a Home.

Lots of people think that staging a home for sale is the same thing as decorating a home. Well, the truth is they are quite different things.
When we stage a house for sale, the main objective is to help potential buyers see the best features of your home and how the space could be best used.
When we decorate a house, the main objective is to give the homeowner a space that is reflective of his or her personal tastes and needs.
With staging, we are appealing to a large number of potential buyers. With decorating, we are considered with only one person, the homeowner.

When stagers speak of "depersonalizing" a home when they stage it, they just mean that it becomes appealing to a larger group of possible buyers because many personal effects are removed.

Think of it this way.

When you live in your home and decorate it to reflect yourself, you are treating your home as your castle. If you want to sell your home, you need to start thinking of it as a commodity.
