Getting Back On Track

So you over indulged…didn't we all! Thats what the Holidays are for, right! Now its time to re-group and get back on track. Here are a couple of tips to get you started….
Number one…Forgiveness... don't beat yourself up because you've binged for a month, or had one too many alchoholic beverages! We are human, let it go…there is zero point dwelling on it, just focus on the future.
Start every morning with a glass of water with lemon. Some experts believe the water has to be hot and occasionally I do boil my water but more often than not I drink it room temperature (personally not a fan of ice cold, especially in the winter!) Make sure you are using fresh lemons (ha!..I use 100% organic lemon juice). One tablespoon to one cup of water. Apparently you can also rev up your metabolism by adding a pinch of ground cinnamon and ginger. It works wonders to stimulate your digestive system and it improves your body's ability to absorb nutrients. It gently flushes your kidneys and liver of wastes and toxins.
Did you know your body stores more fat when you are dehydrated? Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE advocate of drinking water…I tend to overly promote this to all my clients…skip the soda and sugary drinks and grab a water;) Don't get me wrong, I love my coffee, but I fuel up with H2O all day long!!I could give a mini lecture on all the benefits but Im going to save it for another day!
Get outside!!!! Ok, I know you may not be as crazy as me to run in the "teens" and yes, it is challenging to run in the snow and ice. So if you can't make it outside just do any pyshical activity, just move! Treadmill, elliptical, yoga, anything, put on some music and have a dance party with your kids…just get your heart rate going! The endorphin boost alone will be great for your mind set and leave you feeling more refreshed and revitalized.
If you are really feeling like you need to detox, take a day or two off from solids and have soups and smoothies instead. Use dark leafy greens and lots of veggies, and if you are a soup maker, use onions and garlic. I'm not a fan of any crazy, drastic 'over the counter' detox miracle…you have everything you need at the grocery fresh produce aisle.
Saunas & Steam rooms are another way to flush out toxins and help you relax and de-stress. Make sure you follow them up with a cold shower afterwards.
Even though the season of endless indulgence is not quite over you can start to balance it all out with some extra self care. Start one step at a time!
If you need more motivation to get moving , grab a buddy to do this with, read inspirational quotes…I have a daily one on my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/H4Fitness
