Tips to Avoid the Holiday Eating Overload!

Tis the season to overdo the nibbles! From Thanksgiving to New Years we have temptation handed to us on a silver platter! Whether its the baking at home, the family gatherings or the holiday parties, lets face it, we are eating and drinking more.
First of all...Stay Active!!!! If you exercise, your body can handle the overeating much better than if you are inactive. According to a recent study published in the Journal of Physiology, regular exercise helps to keep your blood sugar and fat cells in the healthy range….even when you take in significantly more calories over a several day span. Go for a daily run, take a cardio class, grab some kettle bells, even a long , brisk walk is great!
But when you are faced with the Holiday meals and parties, here are some tips:
Stay hydrated! Drink water throughout the day…don't mistake thirst as a sign of hunger.
Have a light snack before you leave so you are not ravenous by the time you hit the party!
Take a small cocktail plate as opposed to a big one, it will help you not to pile on the goodies!
Focus on fiber, fruits and veg….easy on the dips!
Everything in moderation…have a taste but resist that second serving!
If you're like me and have a wicked sweet tooth, then save your caloric intake for dessert.
Most importantly…don't be too hard on yourself! Its the holidays and life is too short and precious to be consumed by guilt about overeating.  Enjoy your friends and family!
