Obituary: Norma and Anthony Chmielewski

Norma Chmielewski, 79,  and Anthony "Tony" Chmielewski,81, of Trumbull have both died.

Norma died on June 5 and Anthony on June 16, according to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home. They were married for nearly 60 years.

Anthony Chmielewski was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a lifelong Trumbull resident.

According to the funeral home, he was the maintenance supervisor for the Trumbull Public Schools for 32 years before his retirement. He was a Master Carpenter and in his retirement "enjoyed building and carpentry work."

He was a member of the Trumbull High School Building Committee, The Trumbull Parks and Recreation Commission, the Christ the King Building Commission where he was a dedicated parishioner. He was also a former volunteer of the Long Hill Fire Department and member of the VFW Post 141 of Trumbull.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 20 at 9 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull, CT 06611 or Swim Across the Sound, c/o St. Vincent's Medical Center, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport, CT 06606.

Norma Chmielewski was the secretary for Trumbull's first Superintendent of Schools. Over 32 years, she was also secretary to the Easton/Redding Superintendent of Schools and eventually returned to Trumbull and worked until her retirement from Madison Middle School, according to the funeral home.

During her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with all her many local friends, along with friends at the lake house in Massachussetts. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, Sudoku and crossword puzzles.
