Robert J. Smith, 85, of Trumbull

Robert J. Smith, age 85, of Trumbull and recently a resident of Maplewood at Orange, died Oct. 18, 2013.

Born in Bridgeport, CT on January 6, 1928, to the late Robert and Mabel Smith, Bob is predeceased by the "love of his life" Ruth E. Smith and his three sisters, Violet, Alice and Chris. After high school, Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He earned his masters degree from the University of Bridgeport and was employed 36 years by the Southern CT Gas Company as a Senior Executive. Bob was active in the United Way, Rotary Club and various other organizations. He was an avid swimmer, reader, gardener and delighted in family celebrations.

Bob is survived by his beloved daughters, Karen Blatte and her husband Neil of Orlando, FL and Robin Moran and her husband Chris of Orange, CT; his cherished grandchildren, David, Jessica, Christopher, Darren and Scott; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the devoted and caring staff at Maplewood, Exceptional Care and Sol Amor. A special thank you to the caregivers who provided excellent comfort and care to Bob the past two years.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 11:00 am at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd, Trumbull. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery.

Friends may greet the family on Wednesday at 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
