The Rev. Edwin Coyne, 84

The Rev. Edwin Coyne, whose service included St. Joseph High School and St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, died on July 12.

Coyne also served at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Trumbull and helped in other local parishes.

An U.S. Army veteran, Coyne entered the Seminary in 1954 and finished his studies at Mt. St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., according to his obituary. He was ordained to the Priesthood on May 26, 1962 in St. Augustine's Cathedral by Bishop Walter W. Curtis.

In 1984 he became a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in the State of Connecticut and at that time, he was the only Roman Catholic Priest certified in both Drugs and Alcohol in the State and is now an Emeritus in the field of substances, his obituary states.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 12 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 70 Gulf Street Milford, CT 06460, (meet directly at the church) full military honors to follow. Committal will be private.

Friends and family may call on Friday, July 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford.
