Black Friday Shopping on Thursday: You In or Out? [POLL]

There's more time to shop for Black Friday deals this year if you go on Thursday. But will you shop on Thanksgiving?

Gone are the days when the only option for Black Friday shopping was getting up at the crack of dawn on the Friday after Thanksgiving, piling on warm clothing and standing in line for hours.

It's 2011, people, and that means choices. You can go the traditional route and get up at 'early o'clock,' stand in line outside stores or hit the malls.

You can be modern and click the mouse, warm and cozy in your own home.

But this year, there's another option added to the list: Black Friday shopping on Thursday.

Toys 'R Us is the early bird in this aviary: Stores are offering Black Friday deals at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24.

Walmart follows shortly thereafter, with stores opening at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

The following stores open at midnight on Friday, Nov. 25: Best Buy, Kohl's, Macy's and Target.

Sears is open from 7 a.m. to noon Thanksgiving and offering Black Friday deals beginning at 4 a.m. Friday. KMart is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving but Black Friday specials don't begin until 5 a.m. Friday.

This Black Thursday phenomenon has its supporters and its naysayers. Which one are you? Vote in our Patch poll and feel free to add your thoughts in the comments section.

Having worked for a major "big box" retailer for 32 years I came to dread this time of year. Pressure is ratcheted up on the sales force to meet unrealistic sales goals and produce "plus" bussiness in the form of maintenance agreements and new credit accounts etc. Employees are forced to work late into the night and be back early the next morning and cutomers become nastier and nastier as the season grows short. I personally was called on the carpet repeatedly every year for saying "merry Christmas" instead of "happy holiday." Tis the season to be jolly??? Not for retail employees.

Hi Don - it's definitely one of the most stressful and time-crunched times of the year. Every year I try to find ways to make it less stressful and more pleasant.

Everything you can buy in a store you can buy online. Free shipping. Can't beat it.

Online shopping definitely beats this debacle! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/25/black-friday-stampede_n_1113465.html?1322261282

Hey Rocky, Can you contact me at karena@patch.com I'm doing an article on Cyber Monday. I'm looking for people who enjoy shopping online and I am looking for the reasons why they do it. Thanks in advance.
