GOP: Trumbull Dems Slinging Mud

By Paul Lavoie

Having received both of the political mailers from the Trumbull Democrats and Tom Christiano, I was surprised to see that, once again; the Trumbull Democrats have resorted to personal attacks against Republican candidates.

Leave it to the Trumbull Democrats to take the campaign back down into the mud, just as they did in 2010.  I guess their plan is if you can win on your record and with your vision or policies, just try to win by personally attacking your opponent.

Attacking David Rutigliano for the largest mill rate increase in 30 years is an interesting tactic.  Let’s take a look at what really happened. It was a large mill rate increase because we had a REVALUATION.  People that understand municipal budgets realize that the hard dollars don't ever go down.  When the revaluation was done, the mill rate had to increase to keep the budget dollars whole.  Dave worked hard on our budget and was very critical of every line item on the budget.

By the way, the Democrats on the Board of Finance voted for the largest mill rate increase in the last 30 years as well.  But the Democrats leave out that little fact.   Below is the budget vote from March 13th meeting of the Board of Finance.  This is directly from the minutes.

GRAND TOTAL: $155,249,016

Mr. Lupien moved, seconded by Mr. Tesoro to approve the Grand Total of $155,249,016, as presented.

VOTE: 6–0–0 Motion carries

You see, the Trumbull Democrats led the charge for the largest mill rate increase.  Where is that in their postcard?

Nice job Trumbull Democrats - way to throw your own people under the bus……

I'm sure on November 6th that the voters of Trumbull will once again see through the dirty political tactics of the Democrats.  If fact, I'm counting on them.
