Child Hit by Car in Trumbull [Updated]

The incident was just reported about 4:15 p.m.

Trumbull Police have released the following statement:

According to Deputy Police Chief Michael Harry, about 3:55 pm, "a youth was struck by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross white plains road (RT127).

While the investigation is in its preliminary stage, it appears that a youth, approximately 13 years old and who has not yet been identified, was attempting to cross White Plains Road in the area of the intersection of Reservoir Avenue. One vehicle in the southbound lane stopped for the youth and as he crossed, he was either struck or ran into the side of another southbound vehicle adjacent to the one that had stopped. White Plains Road is a four-lane roadway with two lanes in each direction. 

The youth appeared to have sustained serious leg and arm injuries and was transported to Bridgeport hospital by Trumbull EMS.

Trumbull Police have closed off a portion White Plains Road in Trumbull Center as they investigate what's been reported by numerous people as a car hitting a child.

The injury does not appear critical or life-threatening, said Bridgeport Hospital spokesman John Cappiello, just before 6 p.m.

The accident took place just after 4 p.m. A Subaru was stopped a short distance from the accident and was covered in police tape. A lone woman was seated on the ground speaking to a police officer.
