Cops: Man in Stolen Car Being Questioned for Area Burglaries

A man in a reportedly stolen car allegedly failed to stop for police before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing into Trumbull's woods Thursday morning.

Bridgeport Police caught John Fisher, 25, of Anson Street, Derby, in the woods in the West Lake Road area of Trumbull, said Bill Kaempffer, Bridgeport police spokesman.

The incident was first reported at 9:32 a.m. when a Bridgeport police lieutenant was following a gray 2007 Honda Civic, reportedly stolen, on East Main Street and Noble Avenue. The vehicle's driver refused to stop and led Bridgeport police on a chase that ended in Trumbull, police said.

Officers lost sight of the car on East Lake Road but later spotted it on West Lake Road and Palmer Trail, and tracked the driver, identified as Fisher, into the woods, Kaempffer said.

Trumbull police charged Fisher with numerous motor vehicle violations, and Bridgeport police charged him with second-degree larceny, Kaempffer said.

He was released to Bridgeport police custody and held in lieu of $10,000 bond, Kaempffer said.

Fisher is being questioned in connection with numerous area burglaries, but Kaempffer did not know which communities were involved.

A Trumbull police spokesman was not immediately available for comment.
