Jury Clears Trumbull Doc of Presciption Violations

Dr. Donald Austrian, who had an office in Trumbull, was found not guilty in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Trumbull Physician Dr. Donald Austrian is a free man after being found not guilty finding of 10 charges of illegally prescribing narcotic painkillers, the Connecticut Post newspaper has reported.

Austrian, of Oxford, was arrested last year his house was raided by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.

The paper said that according to police, in July 2008, the state Department of Consumer Protection received a complaint that Austrian was prescribing pain killers to a man who he knew was addicted to drugs.

A former Stratford Police officer, who had resigned from force, was the state's main witness, according to the Post. Austrian's attorney played a tape recording the officer's visit with the doctor, the paper said.

The six-person jury acquitted Austrian after deliberating three hours, the paper reported.
