Meet Trumbull EMS' New Addition

Trumbull EMS has added a new ambulance to its arsenal. Meet the Sprinter.

The ambulance cost about $95,000, compared to the cost of a box-truck style ambulance at about $150,000, said Trumbull EMS Director Joseph Laucella.

"The design of these has gotten a lot better," Laucella said recently. UPS also uses Sprinters, he added.

The new ambulance gets better mileage, is quieter and easier to maneuver. "It rides really smoothly," Laucella said. It's the fourth vehicle in the fleet.

Trumbull EMS owns the ambulance. The service is partly funded by the town but it has a combination of paid and volunteer staff, according to the director.

According to recent statistics, TEMS has increased its response percentage to more than 90 percent of its calls.
