John Johnson, 42, of Garwood Road, Trumbull, is charged with third-degree assault on an elderly person and disorderly conduct.
Police said Johnson and his father, who is older than 60, were arguing when the assault occurred.
Afterward, he was banned from the home but returned again and was charged with violation of conditions of release.
He is being held on $23,000 bond for an appearance Oct. 2 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
