Trumbull Cops: Man Texted, Drove and Crashed

Christopher Hatzikostas, 38, of Lindley Street, Bridgeport, is accused of crashing his car into a telephone pole because he was texting while driving.

Hatzikostas is charged with texting while driving, failure to drive in the proper lane, evading and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Police said officers found a heavily damaged vehicle on Church Hill Road near Val Demere Drive in November 2013 and traced it back to Hatzikostas. He allegedly crashed the car at a different location and later abandoned it.

He reported the accident to the car dealership that owned it, but failed to report it to police, according to reports. He allegedly admitted texting while driving.

He turned himself in to police on Jan. 14 and is free on a written promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court.
