Himes Calls for Weiner to Resign

Congressman Jim Himes announced Monday that he will donate campaign contributions received from Weiner to the Yerwood Center

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4, on Monday called for the resignation of New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, D-9, following a media-exposed sexting scandal.

Himes, a resident of Cos Cob, said in a statement that Weiner’s actions are distracting Congress from critical work and that he would donate campaign contributions received from Weiner to the Stamford-based , which provides social and educational activities for children. The donations, which were given in each of the 2008 and 2010 election cycles, total up to $2,000.

“While millions of Americans go without work, families throughout the country fear foreclosures, and our nation faces a fiscal crisis, we cannot afford the continued distraction of this sorry situation,” Himes said in the statement. “I hope Mr. Weiner will choose to step down so Congress can put this matter to rest and so that he can focus on his personal situation.”

Weiner took a leave of absence this week, according to the Huffington Post, to receive professional treatment at an undisclosed location. Weiner, who got married last year, admitted last week that he was exchanging sexually explicit messages and photos with several women online.

He lied about this, what else has he lied about? He should resign.

I'm sure you were singing that same tune during the Clinton proceedings. Clinton was found guilty of lying....to congress under oath and I remember hearing you saying it wasn't a big deal. Now that Jimbo is making a stance you Follow Good to see the Fairfield DTC lemmings are mobilizing. Himes is only calling for this because it's the expedient thing to do in this area. As of right now AW did nothing illegal (where are the calls for Rangle?), just stupid. No crime against that. Let the electors of his district be his jury in November. Everyone else should just butt out (including Mr Jim "I do wht Nancy does")
