Murphy: Speed, Capacity of Semi-Automatic Weapons 'Unbelievable' [Video]

Sen. Chris Murphy watches a state police demonstration of the power of military-style assault rifles in Simsbury.

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D—Conn.) paid a visit to the Conn. State Police Gun Range in Simsbury Friday for a demonstration on military-style assault rifles.

State police Sergeant Shawn Corey demonstrated the differences between two military-style assault rifles for Murphy as he asked questions specifically about two versions of a similar weapon—one that is banned in the state of Conn. and one that is currently legal.

i think these public officials should try out all the different types of weapons available, so that they have a full understanding of their purpose

Whats more important our state and federal officials should look into changing medical insurance guidelines. My son see's a psychiatrist for various reasons and his just passed away recently. I am now trying to find a replacement for him and what I have come to realize that this doctor was not only an amazing doctor ( Dr. Leon Tec ) but probably a one and a million that takes medical insurance. I have contacted (6) differenct child/adolescent psychiatrist and not one of them takes medical insurance they all want CASH - they will work with me on a sliding scale, ya right like I can afford that, what am I paying my medical insurance for, this is the problem with mental health and child/adolescent psychiatrist. If you don't have the cash to pay them which many parents don't not have and extra bundle of cash hanging around weekly to hand out. The state and government officials need to reform mental health care to force these types of mental health provides to except all medical insurance not just cash - then maybe we would not have so many funerals to attend each year. Someone should ask Sen. Murphy - Why is it that the AR-15 is so dangerous today when it's been available to the public from Colt since 1963?
