Trumbull Curbside Bulky Waste Pick-ups Begin Tuesday

Each household is allotted one free pick-up appointment per year.

Starting Tuesday, Trumbull residents can take advantage of the town’s bulk waste curbside pick-up program, which runs April 1 through the end of September.

The free service is designed to remove garbage that residents would not otherwise be able to dispose of themselves. Each household gets one scheduled pick-up per year.

Pick-ups are by appointment only and residents are urged to call early (203-452-5070 or 203-452-5071), as slots fill up fast. Crews are available for pick-ups on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Waste should be placed neatly on the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of the appointment. Disorderly or inaccessible piles will be bypassed and the residence’s pick-up forfeited for the year.

Acceptable items include: sofas, chairs, refrigerators (doors removed), rugs, rug pads, mattresses, dishwashers, washing machines, gas grills, lawn mowers, bicycles and branches and brush.

Branches, brush and metal do not need to be tied, but they must be cut to 4-foot lengths and stacked neatly at the curb. Metal, brush and wood must be separated into their own respective piles.

Unacceptable Materials:

  • Household trash, hazardous materials like motor oil, pesticides and oil based paint (there is a Household Hazardous Waste Day every year — watch for notices)
  • Recyclable materials… blue bin stuff
  • Demolition materials like ceramic tile, toilets, asphalt shingles, sheetrock, insulation, concrete or stone (tickets must be purchased at the Highway Department to dispose of these items — $12 and will cover 125 pounds)
  • Vehicles (no automobile parts) or tires
  • Propane tanks
  • Explosives
  • Dead animals
  • Pieces of wood or metal that are over 4 feet long or greater than 6 inches in diameter

Contact the Highway Department at 203-452-5070 with any questions.
