Eagles Clip Norwalk In Senior Night Matchup

Erin Moore drops 20 points in Lady Eagles' senior night victory over Norwalk, 60-41.

Working from his team goal sheet, girls basketball Coach Steve Tobitsch saw one of his in-game goals slip away Monday.

For the first time since early in the season, the Eagles allowed more than 40 points in a contest. Norwalk reached that mark with a free throw in the final minute.

But not all was bad for the Eagles in their 60-41 win over the pesky Lady Bears.

“We wanted a test,” Tobitsch said. “We thought we were going to get one last week, but we didn’t, and we got one tonight.”

Erin Moore lead the Eagles with a dominating 20 points, despite only scoring six points in the first half.  In fact, the Eagles were ice cold in the first quarter, scoring their 14 points on fastbreaks and free throws.

But in the second half, the Eagles went back to work, moving the ball around the perimeter, finding open looks.  Several traveling calls and bricked 3-pointers prevented the Eagles from opening up the game against the athletic Norwalk squad.

Trumbull junior guard Victoria Pfohl dropped 10 points while  seniors Kelly Coughlin, Jackie Palmer, and Mookie Kennedy each contributed six. Meg Puglia chipped in with four.

Looking ahead, Tobitsch is excited about his team’s success and rankings in various polls:  17th in the MSG Varsity Tri-State Rankings, seventh in the state and unofficially first in Class LL.

After their senior night victory, the Eagles face their final regular-season opponent at New Canaan on Wednesday.
