Early Dismissal for Newtown Schools Today

The announcement was just made by Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson.

Due to the wintry mix forecast for today, Newtown Public Schools will have an early dismissal, according to a message sent out by Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson.

Do you agree with the decision?

Some comments made on the Newtown Patch Facebook page: Denise Buzy-Pucheu: Oh please once again... when was the last full week of school... can anyone remember any more... Marisa Caron: horrible decision. Chris Fischer: last full week was 5 weeks ago!! And its not even december yet!! Jennifer Strychalsky: people, its not about the amount of snow on the ground....its about the temerature at the time of dismissal causing roads to be slick. I, for one, would rather my child be safe. Jessica Valerio Durno: And if something happened to our children because they weren't let out early people would complain about that too. http://www.facebook.com/NewtownPatch

I witnessed the accident of a bus and a car ..no one was injured thank goodness but those frightened little babies waiting for their moms on the bus was soo sad..get over yourself about a full week of school..our childrens safety comes first..I'd love know what you two would do if you had to make those decisions or it was your child on the bus..she probably didnt cancel because of how many times people complained and school was closed and the weather was ok..now look what happened!

Thank you Karen and Jessica for your comments. There are way too many naysayers and individuals who are easy to second-guess decisions, especially when they don't have to make them. We entrust our children's safety to the school system and Janet Robinson, and she is in a no-win situation when receiving such criticism. Yes, early dismissal causes inconvenience, been there, done that, but nothing is worth more than our children's safety, in addtion to the bus drivers' and others on the road. Thank you Janet.
