The Trumbull Taxpayers’ Association (TTA) will host a presentation and discussion of the proposed changes to the municipal charter Sept. 28 at the .

“On Election Day in November, voters will be asked to vote on a number of proposed changes to our town’s charter, the document that directs how our government is supposed to function,” said Tim Ryan, president of the TTA. “Some of these proposed charges are minor and relatively unimportant but others represent significant changes in the way our government operates.  Before voting, it is important to understand what is being proposed.”

"This seminar will be a non-biased, non-political review and discussion of the major changes proposed so we all can gain a better understanding of the issues,” Ryan said.

The presentation will start at 7 p.m. in the Trumbull Library Meeting Room. At least one member of the Charter Revision Commission, Gail Hanna, will present an overview of the recommended changes, and be available to answer questions.

“I was aware that the Charter Revision Commission started its work about a year ago,” Ryan said.  “Like most of us, I didn't attend the information meetings, incorrectly assuming the proposed changes involved just minor details and correction to poorly worded passages. Now I see there are items on the ballot that are indeed significant – concerning the ease of calling for a referendum on the budget, for example.

“The Sept. 28 event will be a good venue for learning more about these issues so we can vote responsibly in November,” he added. As for all meeting of the Trumbull Taxpayers’ Association, this event is free and open to the public.

For those interested, annual dues to join the Association are $15.
