Graduation: Beginnings and Endings for Trumbull

The 52nd Commencement of Trumbull High School saw the last graduation for two Trumbull education officials and a new beginning for seniors.

As THS Principal Robert Tremaglio and Supt. Ralph Iassogna bid farewell to the graduating THS seniors Thursday, they also bid farewell to their old lives.

Tremaglio is stepping down to become the head of the Agriscience Center and Iassogna is retiring July 1, after 14 years as superintendent. Both are veteran educators in Trumbull.

Tremaglio told the graduates to "stay clearly in the moment" and "care enough to make something count."

When people work together, he said, "wonderful things happen." He also urged the students not to let technology depersonalize them.

"Be enthusiastic, altruistic, gracious, loving and ethical," Tremaglio added.

Iassogna said two "fundamental tenets have proven invaluable" for success.

"Look no further than yourself. Shape your own destiny and be the best you can be," he said. He also urged them to conduct themselves appropriately.

"Prove the cynics wrong. One person can make a difference," Iassogna said.

Secondly, he told the students to contribute to society with "simple acts of kindness."

"Every little bit helps," according to Iassogna.

"Classy Educators"

Meanwhile, Board of Education Chairman Steve Wright and First Selectman Tim Herbst praised the veteran educators.

Iassogna has been serving the district for more than 30 years, and "'Dr. Bob' has shown such dedication to this school as principal," Herbst said.

Herbst added that Tremaglio helped students navigate high school throughout eight years of construction.

Wright, who called Iassogna and Tremaglio "classy educators," said construction has failed to stop Tremaglio from serving students.

He joked that the two "never curse."

"They don't curse. Never. They know this vocabulary restricts you as a person and is evidence of a small mind," Wright said.
