Trumbull School District Confirms Spending Plan, Announces Promotion

There will be no layoffs.

Trumbull Schools Supt. Ralph Iassogna said the district's final plan to cover a shortfall in its $92.9 million budget does not involve layoffs.

"To accommodate this reduction was a challenging and complicated task," Iassogna said.

About half of the reduction comes from reducing non-personnel items such as utilities, materials, supplies and equipment. The rest comes from using the estimated $420,000 surplus and $874,000 set aside in a separate account.

Meanwhile, Iassogna said Michael McGrath, director of Pupil Services, will become assistant superintendent to replace Gary Cialfi, who was promoted to superintendent.

Iassogna is retiring after 14 years as superintendent and decades as an educator July 1, when all the promotions will take place.
