Trumbull Schools Chief Ralph Iassogna Gets His Report Card

Board Of Education Chair Edward Lovely gave superintendent Iassogna a superior grade on his annual performance review, and the board extended his contract and raised his salary

Trumbull Board of Education Chair Edward Lovely summarized the performance review given to Supt. Ralph Iassogna based on “input from the entire board” at Tuesday evening’s meeting.

Iassogna, who has served as superintendent for 12 years, aced the test.

Lovely said Iassogna’s two major accomplishments this past year were overseeing the development of the new bullying policy and communicating it to all the district’s constituencies - parents, teachers, other staff; and heading the development of full and extended day kindergarten. The latter has been completed, and, budget permitting, will begin in the 2012-13 year.

In addition, Lovely noted, Iassogna “resolutely managed the day-to-day operations of the district; established and maintained cordial relations with all district constituencies; and has consistently attracted outstanding candidates for open positions.”

He concluded that Iassogna showed leadership through the difficult budget process and in the preparation of the annual report.

“We are fortunate to have Mr. Iassogna as superintendent,” he said.

The board unanimously accepted the review.

A motion was made to add an additional year to his contract, keeping him in place through June 30, 2014. Vice Chairwoman Deborah Herbst commented that while has done a “wonderful job as superintendent” and “kept the children at the forefront during the recent storm,” she opposed extending his contract while he still has two years remaining. The motion was approved 5-2.

Lovely made a motion to increase his salary by four percent.  He reminded the board that he has not had an increase for two years, and that the year before he donated his raise to the scholarship fund. Foregoing a salary increase, Lovely said, “goes above and beyond the call of duty.”  The motion was approved 7-0.

Iassogna thanked the board for its “support and confidence,” and said he was “proud to be superintendent.”  He called the keys to Trumbull’s success the combination of “an active student body, involved parents and a superior staff.”
