THS Golden Eagles Marching Band Takes 4th in Ohio

The Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band placed fourth out of 32 in the international competition held recently in Dayton, Ohio, said Percussion Thomas Whitmoyer.

“We are the only current Open Level Scholastic Ensemble to be a finalist for eight consecutive years,” he said.

The group of 32 Trumbull High percussionists competed in Dayton after an undefeated season in their conferences. They won the WGI New England Regional in March and completed an undefeated season in both the Musical Arts conference (MAC) and the New England Scholastic Band Association.

According to Whitmoyer, when Trumbull came in first place, with a score of 95.1 at the MAC championship in April, the group won its eighth Open Championship title in the last 11 years.

The show, called “The Traveler”, was written by John Mapes and Iam Grom, with the drill design credited to Pete Rehill. Its theme "conveyed the notion that life if a journey and that we all need to face this journey with a sense of adventure and determination," Whitmoyer said.
