Trumbull Pisces Receives Trumbull Rotary Grant

Trumbull Pisces Swimming Association (“Pisces”) has received a Trumbull Rotary Grant.

“We are pleased that the Trumbull Rotary has awarded a Grant to the Trumbull Pisces, easing our financial burden to rent pool time while Hillcrest was closed for repairs,” said Pisces Board President Stu Needleman. “We have been working closely with the town to get information and pass along to our families. While the situation has presented many challenges for our large organization, our families and swimmers have risen to the occasion and continued to be patient.”

“The Trumbull Pisces Swim team has been serving the youth of our community in a positive way for a very long time. The team is an institution, here in Trumbull. So when the Club heard of the challenges that the team was having, not only in finding pool time, but the incremental costs involved, the Rotary was pleased to be able to make a contribution to lighten the financial burden for their swimmers,” said Jim Malski, president of the Trumbull Rotary Club.

At the Pisces annual banquet held on September 23rd at Marisa’s, Needleman also congratulated returning swimmers’ accomplishments and welcomed new families. He also congratulated Head Coach Bill Strickland and assistant coach Sara Mesavage on their work with the large group of swimmers. “Bill and Sara have done an outstanding job with grouping, organizing and coaching our kids. They have been challenged with issues affecting our team due to Hillcrest being closed.”

Head Coach Bill Strickland recognized all swimmers with their best swim times and welcomed new Pisces swimmers. Also awarded for their achievements were seven swimmers who, during the 2011/2012 year, swam qualifying times to attend the State of Connecticut Age Group Championships. Additionally Strickland awarded the first  annual award for overall attitude and teamwork to Chiaki Santiago, Ben Taubl and Clare Kehley. “We are proud of our swimmers accomplishments in the past,” said Strickland. “We are looking forward to a strong season. Our tryouts were very successful, as we expected following the London Olympics, and we took over 40 new swimmers. We have a young team and are looking forward to developing more success as they progress. We have many opportunities for them to swim as we have scheduled six meets prior to the end of 2012.”

Pisces are planning on holding a community fundraiser throughout November including an annual aquathon fundraiser on Friday, November 30.

Trumbull Pisces is celebrating its 30th year as a non-profit organization for children ages 6-18 who live in the town of Trumbull. Pisces offers comprehensive swimming opportunities from the developing swimmer to the advanced competitive swimmer.
