A Busy Week

Recollections from an event-filled week.

Looking back, it's hard to believe that so much can happen in one week.

On Friday, May 13, I was honored to be asked to read aloud to a Fourth Grade class at Tashua School as part of Sensitivity Day, sponsored by the Trumbull Parents of Students with Learning Differences (TPSLD). I read My Heart Glow by Emily Arnold McCully...the story of Alice Cogswell, Thomas Gallaudet, and the birth of the American Sign Language. Reading to a class and visiting one of our excellent schools is a very rewarding experience.

On Saturday, May 14, I joined Rob Pescatore, Andy Palo, Johnny DelVecchio, Jr., Lisa Valenti, and Mary Beth Thornton for a Food Drive to benefit the Trumbull Food Pantry in front of Porricelli's. Many thanks to all who gave generously, and to Porricelli's for letting us use their venue. Truly needy folks use the Trumbull Food Pantry, and the shelves need restocking!

On Sunday, May 15, my wife, Marcy and I went to Mass at 7:30 a.m. and then had breakfast at Marnick's in Lordship. What an excellent way to spend a Sunday morning...with God and my wife!

As an added bonus, my beloved Red Sox swept the Yankees in a three game series at Yankee Stadium. Three Red Sox victories and three Yankee losses.  It doesn't get any better than that.  At least not in baseball.

On Monday night, May 16, I was at the beautiful new THS auditorium for the ACE Foundation Awards. The ACE Foundation is described as a booster club for academic activities in our schools. Congratulations to everyone who received awards, and thank you to those who work tirelessly to raise money for the ACE Foundation.

On Tuesday, I took half a day from work and was so fortunate to have lunch in East Haven with Mary Beth Thornton and Mayor April Capone. A couple weeks ago, I was reading the Time Magazine issue profiling the 100 most influential people in the world.  One of them was Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook. The profile was written by April Capone, who met a constituent on Facebook and found that he needed a kidney transplant. She found that she was a match, and donated one of her kidneys to him.  It was quite a thrill to meet this incredible woman who literally gave of herself to help someone in need.

That evening was the Board of Education meeting at the Long Hill Administration Building. The Board of Ed reviewed the Strategic School Profiles, which objectively demonstrate the incredible performance of our public schools. There is so much for which to be proud. Thank you to Supt. Iassogna, all the administrators, staff, our GREAT teachers, students and families!

Wednesday night was another thrilling event.  At a packed house at Tashua Knolls, Mary Beth Thornton declared her candidacy for First Selectman of Trumbull. Mrs. Thornton is such a community leader, full of optimism and hope, and she is a candidate I truly believe is going to lead Trumbull in the right direction. It was very exciting, a truly electric atmosphere. I have a great deal of respect for Mary Beth Thornton. I am proud to support her candidacy for First Selectman.

Thursday night I got home at 7:20, had dinner with my wife, and then headed to Lordship for frozen yogurt at Zach's. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday. It's been a busy, but rewarding week, and I am grateful for everyone with whom I crossed paths. I especially am thankful for my beloved wife, Marcy, and thank God for blessing me with good health and the stamina to keep a busy schedule.
