Update, Tuesday, May 15 Neighbors helped contain the fire at 23 Blackberry Road before firefighters showed up, said Daniel J. Utz, of Trumbull, a U.S. Air Force veteran. Utz, 55, an engineer who almost became a Bridgeport firefighter, said he was exiting the Route 25/8 Connector at exit 9 when he saw black smoke, called 911 and went to investigate. A woman is accused of stealing $1,084 in merchandise from Kohl's in Trumbull on May 6. Police said she put clothing in bags, entered a dressing room and walked out holding the bags. Her bond was set at $7,500. Police believe 57-year-old Stamford woman shot her 85-year-old mother, then herself.
A 57-year-old Stamford woman shot her mother in the back with a double-barreled shotgun and then turned the gun on herself, police said Friday evening. Florence Beran, 85, was confirmed by Capt. Richard Conklin as being the owner of 1214 Long Ridge Road and victim of what police are calling a murder-suicide. Beran's daughter, Susan, is believed to have committed the act because the house was in the middle of a tax sale, the family more than $50,000 behind on their taxes. Conklin confirmed the family had recently had the electricity turned off. Do news organizations that publish 911 call audio help or harm the communities they serve?
The initial shockwave that swept through Fairfield County last week after the Ramsey family tragedy changed to disgust following the decision of area news outlets to publish the graphic 911 recording, during which Mrs. Ramsey told the dispatcher that her husband was lying dead “in a pool of blood.” Patch received access to the tape but did not publish a link to it. As an American writer who considers the First Amendment our most cherished right, I believe that making 911 tapes available to the public is essential to community safety; however, are we not also human beings? Did the tape need to be released so soon after Mr. Ramsey’s tragic demise? And how—if at all—did the tape’s release advance the public’s understanding of this heinous …

Connecticut State Police have a warrant for Edward Taylor, 21, of Bridgeport, on charges of third degree assault, criminal mischief and breach of peace, in connection with an incident that occurred in April at Housatonic Community College.
State Police at Troop G in Bridgeport are asking for the public's help in locating Edward Taylor, 21, whose last known address is 145 Pleasantview Avenue, Bridgeport. Taylor, a black male, is believed to be in the Bridgeport area. State police have a warrant for his arrest on charges of third degree assault, criminal mischief and breach of peace, in connection with an incident that occurred in April at Housatonic Community College.
