Jessica Migdol of Manhattan was sitting across from side of the train that hit the other train.
She said the window in front her shattered and "curled up" to protect herself.
"All these things were breaking over me," she said, as she sat in nearby McDonald's with her boyfriend, Chaz Bates of New London, and his mother, Maureen Manning of New London.
Before Friday, "I've never been in any sort of accident ever."
She said her ribs hurt and she had scratches on her hand, but other people appeared to be more seriously hurt. She planned on going for medical treatment on the weekend.
"We're going to take good care of her," said Manning, a certified nursing assistant.
