Marshall Tucker Band headlines Oyster Fest, Acclaimed author heads to Trumbull

The Milford Oyster Festival is taking place again this year and is located on the Milford Green. This Saturday starting at 10 a.m., bring the family for a full day of fun. Admission is free and includes live entertainment as The Marshall Tucker Band will headline the event. Other artists hitting the stage for your listening pleasure include Shakedown and The Sellouts. This 37th Annual festival will go on rain or shine and is sure to pack your Saturday with delicious eats, shopping fixes with local vendors, a large variety of food and dessert stands, car hops, arts and crafts for the kids and much more. Of course, it wouldn't be a true oyster extravaganza without a ton of East Coast shellfish growers to proudly serve their best. Over 13 coastal companies will be in attendance, giving you the opportunity to taste oysters from different waters. There will also be an oyster shucking contest and an oyster eating contest. If you can't wait until Saturday for the fun, Oyster Eve 2 takes place this Friday from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Lisman Landing on the Milford Harbor on Helwig Street. This pre-game party include a dine-all-eve oysters, beer and a la carte menu and Rod Stewart tribute band Rick Larimore & The Blondes. The Trumbull Library located at 30 Quality Street presents Summer Reading Author Talk Dead Head & Slugfest by Rosemary Harris. This Monday at 2:30 p.m. come into the library for a presentation of Harris' Dirty Business Mystery Series which is about a nice suburban who's discovered to be a fugitive from the law. Brooklyn-born Harris is also the author of Pushing Up Daisies and is an award-winner and Anthony and Agatha award-nominated writer. Make plans for this Monday for one hour in the Community Room and you'll be able to meet the acclaimed author. The 4th Annual Lemonade Stand for Rett Syndrome takes place this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the McMahan Front Yard at 272 Fairfield Beach Road in Fairfield. Hosted by Keegan and Avery McMahan this fundraiser will support Rett Syndrome which is a neurological disorder primarily in females which slows down development, including loss of speech and no functional hand use and the inability to walk. This Saturday you can do your part by stopping by the residence for lemonade, cookies and face-painting. Every penny earned this weekend will be donated to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSF) for scientific studies on finding a cure. The McMahan household holds this fundraiser dear as their 11-year-old daughter, Keilly, has Rett Sydrome. In 2008, the McMahans raised over $250 and thus far have raised a total of $6,250. The Beardsley Zoo located at 1875 Noble Ave. presents Teddy Bear Fest! This Saturday the zoo is asking all visitors to bring in their favorite teddy bear for Bear Awareness. The day will feature children's crafts and storytelling focused on bears and will also include educational real facts on the fuzzy animals. Admission this Saturday is free for children under 12 years-old who bring their teddy bear friend along for the "Teddy Bear Clinic" and are accompanied by a paying adult. Zoo hours are from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily and admission for adults is $12. Also on exhibit right now are Snowy Owls, and an Endangered Brazilian Ocelot kitten, Ayla.
