New Pistols Purchased for State Police

The War on Drugs helped pay for the new guns.

Connecticut State police are purchasing 1,250 new pistols using money seized from criminals such as drug dealers.

According to the Associated Press, the new 45-caliber Sig Sauer P220 pistols total $280,000 and packs more power than the 16-year-old pistols currently used.

A description of the pistol on the Sig Sauer website says, “In 1976 the .45 ACP P220 was introduced and quickly became recognized as one of ‘the most accurate 45s right out of the box.’ Since that time the P220 has earned an enviable record in hot spots around the world."

Asset forfeitures were a $1.8 billion national industry in the 2010 fiscal year. People convicted of federal crimes can have their property seized if that property “was involved in or the result of criminal behavior,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Connecticut made $5.5 million from asset forfeiture in 2010.

In 2011, 56 state troopers were laid off in order to for budgetary reasons. In 2012, lawmakers paved the way for future reductions in staff.

fantastic choice. Both the Heckler & Koch and the Sauers are crafted by the finest artisans. A nice mix of German produced and New Hampshire pistols are perfect for getting the bad guys!

It is so easy for you to talk about shooting "bad guys". Are you aware how difficult it actually is to shoot a human being and the psychological toll it may leave on a policeman or a soldier who actually is forced to shoot someone. Don't be so damn flippant about something as serious as killing a human being.

Obviously there is a psychological toll for keeping us safe from evil. I just wish there weren't so many low level nobodies in this town so they could understand how challenging the job of the police truly is, how they are constantly being made into patsy's doing the dirty work of an elite structure, when they are told to break the highest law of this land. I guess we will never understand each other, Trumbull, maybe in a few generations when you folks evolve.

And gosh Jim, lets save the psych 101 analysis for your continuing education class. The reason that the police are given weapons are multi purposed. For deterence. So that people know that these guys have the option of deadly force to protect themselves. They are sent out every day, with just a uniform and a badge, sometimes into a war zone. So they should feel safe and comfortable knowing that we are on their side and that they, through their obedience to this great system, will be used mostly for good. They should also have weapons that they can rely on, man, so that is why I posted my post. I'm not sure what is wrong with you, maybe just take a vacation, ok. We don't all hate you, Jim
