To the Editor,
I am running for re-election to the Trumbull Town Council because I believe in supporting our volunteer Fire Departments – not turning them into all-paid organizations that would require taxes higher. I believe in supporting our schools, not allowing out-of-towners to send their children to here free of charge. And I believe in maintaining strong fiscal controls so your tax dollars are spent wisely, not wasted, and only spent after carefully considering all alternatives.
After nearly 24 years of running a public relations business, I have come in contact with a wide range of businesses with many types of problems. I have learned that it takes creativity to solve tough problems – not just piles of dollars. First Selectman Tim Herbst and his team bring that creativity to the legislative table.
We have made great progress under Mr. Herbst’s leadership. Now is not the time to change direction. Now is not the time to return to an era when multi-digit tax hikes were commonly requested. Now is not the time to return to bitter, contentious battles between the school department and town administration. Mr. Herbst and his team, along with school department leaders, have made great strides in building a mutually respectful relationship, with open communication and thoughtful resolution of issues.
We have tough issues facing us in the months and years ahead. It will take strong leadership – leadership not under the thumb of any special interest group. Voters have a clear choice this year – you can choose those proven able to get the job done or you can vote for unknowns. I hope to meet you at the polls on Election Day and, of course, I look to each of you for support.
