Trumbull EMS Concludes 9th Annual Food Drive

The following is a letter to the editor

By Paulina Howard

After Halloween has past, it is like a switch is flipped onto full on holiday joy. Children make their Christmas lists for Santa, moms and grandmas argue over who is hosting Thanksgiving for the entire family and the air is constantly filled with the aroma of cinnamon and spices. There is something about this time of year that just exudes homey comforts and warm smiles all around. However, not every family in town has that kind of luxury during the holidays that everyone typically takes for granted.

This year, Trumbull Emergency Medical Services hosted their 9th annual Food Drive November 9th to collect donations for the families in Trumbull who are in need of a Thanksgiving meal for the dinner table. Everyone should have the privilege of sitting down at the dining room table as one big family, enjoying a nice warm meal. It is what puts the soul in the holidays; all the laughter; creating memories with each other to share with the next generation of the family.

With these thoughts in the back of Trumbull EMS Explorer Post 1978 members and TEMS volunteers, they stood outside of Trumbull’s Stop & Shop, dedicated to filling up one of Trumbull’s ambulances with as many canned goods as they could. Not only was the ambulance bursting to the ceiling with canned goods donations for the Trumbull Food Pantry, but very generous Stop & Shop customers donated gift cards for the needy families; thus making this the most successful year of the fundraiser!

A big thanks to all of the extremely giving and generous customers who donated to the families. Thanks to you, families who were previously scrambling to make ends meet for just a simple dinner every night are now able to enjoy a hot Thanksgiving meal with their family. Everyone should be able to take part in the annual excitement that the holidays bring along. A smile will be on all of the family’s’ faces when they are gifted your generous donations, as well as grateful prayers sent for all of the kind people who helped them.

Trumbull EMS thanks all of the people who were so kind and thoughtful to others during this holiday season. Also, another big thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers who helped unload and transfer all of the donations to the Trumbull Food Pantry. With the help of many, we are able to make a difference in someone else’s life. Take the time out of your life, even it is something small, and play it forward.  That is what makes the holidays a little bit more magical!
