The late Cyd Leone grew up in Trumbull and moved to Fairfield, but a part of her is still in her hometown.
Leone's sister, Joanna, is remembering her with fall decorations donated to the Trumbull Senior Center.
"I donated the decorations in memory of my late sister, Cyd Leone, who graduated from Madison Middle School and Trumbull High School before moving to Fairfield," said Joanna Leone.
"I chose the Trumbull Senior Center because it is a place for all Seniors in Trumbull and some of the surrounding communities. Seniors can gather to visit and chat, attend a festive event, enjoy holiday cheer, a good game of bingo, pizza night, plays, health and wellness fairs and many other activities," she said.
"Additionally, the Senior Center is also a place where seniors can be safe during storms. Their Executive Director, Jean Fereira, along with her assistant, Sharon and the rest of her team and volunteers are devoted and compassionate people."
"I wanted to find a simple way to keep the memory of my late sister Cyd alive in a joyous way. Every time I stop in at the Senior Center, I am greeted with a hug by Jean or Sharon," Leone added.
One particular group of seniors, calling themselves "Smile a While," impressed Leone, who also lives in Trumbull.
"These warmhearted seniors go to other homes for the elderly or rehabilitation homes to spread cheer by singing or performing. I am proud to be the 'Smile A While' sponsor. They spread cheer to so many seniors who might not have the opportunity to go out to a show."
"The doorway and hallway are always filled with warmth and a welcoming feeling. But now, with the fall decorations, it is even more inviting. I've already started to gather some Christmas decorations," the resident said.
