Fire Drill at the Stern Village Congregate

Residents at the Stern Village Congregate learned fire prevention procedures and protocols.

Fire Marshal Megan Murphy and Deputy Fire Marshal Alex Rauso met with the Stern Village congregates on Tuesday, April 30th, to review the correct procedures to follow in the event of a fire or explosion. The two-story congregate building was designed with safety in mind and meets all regulatory codes. The building is equipped with fire safety doors and a sprinkler system. Fire Marshal Murphy emphasized the use of the buddy system when evacuating the building which was adhered to during the fire drill. Congregates were provided with a list of procedures to keep on their refrigerators. These include the following: In the event of a fire or explosion inside your apartment, you must: -Exit your apartment and close door behind you. -Move away from your door, but not out of sight, until the attendant on duty arrives. -Let the attendant know what the problem is and follow their instructions. In the event that the fire alarm goes off while you are in your apartment and the fire is not in your apartment, you must: -Unlock your apartment door, but keep your door closed. -Remain in your apartment. -Remain calm. If it is necessary, either the attendant on duty of the Fire Department will evacuate you from your apartment. In the event the fire alarm is sounded while you are in a common area (lounge, lobby or craft room,) you must: Proceed to the closest exit. Leave the building and wait for the attendant to instruct you. We will be conducting fire drills for the congregate on an annual basis. We are also enforcing fire prevention protocols and lessening any potential fire hazards in the apartments of Stern Village.
