Trumbull Finance Board Member: No Compromise in Budget Process

By Tom Tesoro
This entire budget process is a perfect example of what is wrong with politics. The lack of an desire to compromise is a cancer that afflicts our entire nation and Trumbull is no exception.

What is clear is that this entire budget process was orchestrated from the beginning with the election in mind. Once the First Selectman put in his budget that was it. Public hearing, departmental meetings votes etc meant absolutely nothing.

As a Town volunteer who puts in hundreds of hours in preparation and participation in these meetings it is insulting that the Republicans feel no remorse at wasting the time of others.

For example, when after 2.5 hours of going line by line through the budget, and after asking the Republicans where they were willing to compromise and then I am told that "we are comfortable with the First Selectman's budget."

What nonsense, no one should be comfortable with anything! Where are the checks and balances. Today, there are none in Trumbull.
