A bull owned by Bernie Sippin of Monroe remains at large after it broke loose from his farm about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The animal weighs about 500 pounds, said Sippin, who owns Westview Farm, off Purdy Hill Road in Monroe. He has Angus and Hereford cattle on the 15-acre farm.
Reached by phone, Sippin said the bull broke through the fence. He added he was frustrated that police could not catch it.
"[It] made its way through side streets and wooded areas along Monroe Turnpike, eventually settling in the area of Trefoil Drive. During this time, contact was made with the Animal Control Officer in an attempt to make arrangements to tranquilize the bull," Trumbull Deputy Chief Michael Harry said Tuesday evening.

"After several hours, the attempt was made to tranquilize it but the bull ran from the area. As the time approached for dismissal from Tashua school, it became a safety issue for the children. Officers were instructed, when safely able, to dispatch the animal.
Tashua School was requested to hold dismissal at 3:15 p.m. until the bull was out of the immediate area, and school was released at 4:05 p.m, police said.
