Former Easton Librarian, a Trumbull resident, Arrested for Theft

Nancy Harris of Trumbull, who abruptly retired earlier this month, was arrested for allegedly not returning items to the library.

An employee of the Easton Public Library for 12 years, Easton residents were surprised when Nancy Harris retired, seemingly abruptly, earlier this month.

But Harris' recent arrest might shed some light into precisely why she left her post as assistant librarian.

Harris, who lives in Trumbull, was arrested by Easton Police on Tuesday and charged with larceny in the fifth degree after she allegedly took books, DVDs and magazines from the library and didn't return them, The Connecticut Post reports

According to The Post, Harris used a Trumbull Library card and two Easton Library cards which she took out in the names of her children to borrow more than $3,000 worth of items in a year from the library, which she didn't return.

Harris denied the allegations and told police she didn't know why she was being arrested.

According to The Easton Courier, Bernadette Baldino, the director of the library, declined to comment on Harris' retirement when asked earlier this month.
